On Monday 03 June 2013 18:30:55 Pete Matos did opine: > Interesting I had heard the MPG should always be wired with linuxCNC > because of the real time issue. I certainly have a spare USB port on my > vmcs pendant ready for one. Who am i kidding tho I need to find some > damn work for the machine before I pay for any more toys for it. Sigh. > Peace > > Pete > I believe the rub comes in on the USB is because if a device has any storage in it, like a 2Gb usb-key, the system has to scan it for mistaken organization. That takes time & screws with lcnc. Take the storage out of the scene, and I believe its effect is relatively minimal. Heck, I'm using USB wireless keyboard and mouse on the lathe, and the only time I have a problem is if the receiver gizmo gets knocked off the top of the spindle housing, its cable can reach the floor, and that too long a range for reliable operation with those puny powered bluetooth used in those.
