I too will be using a Delta VFD-B with Linuxcnc sometime soonish, 
probably late this summer or in the fall.

My plan is to try mb2hal first, and write a driver/component in C (using 
libmodbus) if that doesn't work.

I would not use Classic Ladder for this.
