Yes, but Windows is strange when dealing with things like SD cards and
USB storage.  It is impossible (with the usual Windows tools) to format
and partition these devices, AFAIK.  Back around the start of USB mass
storage I sometimes needed to do things like change the partition table
from a HDD version (four physical partition entries) to a floppy-disk
partition table (one physical partition) or vice versa in order to get
the hardware to boot, recognize a BIOS update, etc.

It was impossible to do this on Windows, but just a few quick commands
in Linux.  :)
