You need a known precise square. I hand scraped a set of squares, but that is pretty tedious. You lay the square on the table and align one leg with an axis by running the axis back and forth while reading the leg with a dial test indicator. When it is accurately parallel to that axis, clamp (if you can do that without moving the square) and then run the test indicator along the other axis. Adjust the swivel until the indicator doesn't move. It is something like aligning a vise to the table, except you have to do it twice.
