Greetings all; Yesterday, after I had found the reason my spindle wouldn't turn backwards, a wire from the spinx1 about an inch long that was supposed to be going to a relay coil for the reverse current path, had been bitten off by the hold down washer of the ICE Cube relays socket terminal. Simple fix that required I horse the thing out and turn it around. Hard on back.
In watching how it does this turn around, I note that the shorted motor stop takes a lot longer than the spinup in the other direction. So I am inclined to raise the stop detectors speed currently set at 6 rpm at the spindle, switching the drive direction faster. But this raises the prospect of the amplifier hitting the motor hard enough to unscrew the screwed on, and locktited, fan/pulley. I have one of those sparkfun hall effect, 5 amp range devices that could be used to sense motor amps. I could use it either to trip another relay which could switch in one of the stopping loads in series with the drive to control the over currant, or I could possibly ship that output back to the hal file (I have one uncommitted input on the BOB left) where its going high could cause the pwm drive to be reduced. I am more in favor of just switching in the resistance although that would have the relay doing a buzzer imitation for that 1/4 second. How best to proceed is the 16 dollar question? (there might be more) Secondary question, are these hall effect current measuring gismo's, this one is from sparkfun, currant polarity sensitive? Or do they just read & respond to the resultant magnetic gauss the currant creates? Thanks for any insight I might be missing here. In the meantime, I think I'll go prowling on the sparkfun site & see if there are any docs for this gizmo. If it an run an led while in series with the motor, that would be educational in terms of just how brutal I can get with this idea for a quick turnaround. The led would come on (theoretically) at half the motors max currant. Cheers, Gene -- "There are four boxes to be used in defense of liberty: soap, ballot, jury, and ammo.
