Hello all;

Last night while making some jig parts for this blanket chest,
specifically a couple of short fingered versions of this overgrown box
joint, where the finger pockets cut depth was reduced such that when
properly used as a ball bear router bit guide surface that will only allow
the router to go half-way around the corner but no deeper.

I had hung the Y motor drive cable up on an overhead screw 3 or 4 days ago
to get it out of my way when trying to see behind the hold down clamp bar
on the table, and when I mounted a 14" long piece of 1/2" 6 ply, 5 & white
face, I didn't note that the cable was draped over the end of the board.
So when I tapped the r key and turned to pick up the vac hose, the table
movement stretched the cable to the pull it out of the motor point. Which
it did. So now my Y drive has my spare motor on it, a triple stack nema
23. A 525oz/in big-un.

But when I had transfered the plug to the other motors wires and mounted
it, I turned on the motor power and everything gave out some pretty loud
knocks as the amplifiers grabbed them. Seemed louder than usual.
Checking, and even recycling LCNC, I wasn't able to move any motor.
Running halscope showed zero activity on any parport pin.

Finally, as a last attempt, I did a cold shutdown on the D-525MW equipt
box, and gave it 15 to 20 secs to discharge everything, which if it was a
cmos "scr to substrate" sort of thing, should have fixed at least the
lockup. And it did. It was all back to normal on the reboot.

Must have been quite a surge went up the lines, and possibly could have
been a short against the motors end cap hole. There was a slight odor I
couldn't identify at the time, but other than the motor, no other
casualties except losing the hour rounding up the spare motor and re-
soldering the plug onto the fresh motors wires.

Cheers, Gene Heskett
