How worn are the ball screws? There are companies that rebuild them for
much less than the cost of new. Sometimes all that's required is
replacing the balls with very slightly larger ones. In some cases the
screw will require a very light regrind, plus larger balls.

Many ball screws use two sizes of balls, with every other ball undersize
as "spacers". That's to reduce drag but it also reduces the load
capacity. Rebuilders can install new balls all the same size. If your
screws have spacer balls, it may help to replace them with ones the same
size as the larger ones. You'll most likely have to use one or two fewer.

If you want to try it yourself, there are vendors on eBay selling hard
steel bearing balls of pretty much every diameter you can think of.
Might be some online calculator to help select the amount of size
increase to try to remove lash in a ball screw. I've heard of people
doing this with brand new ball screws to tighten them up as an attempt
to compensate for buying a cheaper grade.

If the screw is unevenly worn, then putting in larger balls can cause
binding or locking up in the less worn parts.
