I found a fellow on ebay with 15 of them for 14 bucks, so I lightened his shelf a wee bit. > > > > 'Twould be nice to be able to bring a 5i25 to life one function at a > > time. I am not feeling anywhere near 75% yet, so I should remind myself to do that next, then rerun pncconf. The drivers can go from 1/1 to 1/128. or for the big z drive 1/256. And having such a wide range available, I am inclined to explore the /16 to /64 divisors to see if that, and the right selection of currents will map to a near silent operation. They are noisy as all get out when running the nameplate rms amps with a 1/8 divisor and sw stepping, also limited to about 50mm a minute as this box can't run any faster. I personally would find it easier to just select the bits I use, 1 25khz pwm spindle with pwm AND dir(i never did find the dir signal for that so just went on), one encoder running at a 20 mhz base rate, and 4 steppers. I can get a two stepper line from the lathe, and probably will. adding the other two steppers shouldn't present any problems once dmesg is reporting in. But let it write a config at that point as I can plug in the rest of it with geany and the docs, one motor at a time, then one set of limit switches at a time, then maybe a home switch setup at the center of travel. This last will be the most complex of course because it will need to decode which direction it needs to run to find the home switch, probably based on the contents of position.txt at launch time. I can do that, but pncconf's refusal to even write the initial starter file is a drag I don't need. I did spend some time on the spindle today also, reducing the excessive preload, which ought to cool that puppy off at least 75F at full speed, Doing that it seems might be hard on the upper bearing as it fits the shaft so tight you have to use a decent hammer blow, padded by an alu block, to move it on the spindle.
