Well, I've not measured it, not having that sort of gauges, but it sure
looked like an acme to me. Of course the only one I've had apart in the
last 50 years is the 4" grizzly, made in India. The bull gear is
eccentric so it has variable backlash, it has no center, so while I use
it, its less than a stellar performer. I even dumped some chalk in the
works and ran it about 10k revs & back while it was adjusted to drag
pretty heavy on the high spots. I cannot see that it made any difference
at all.

It can at least hold a tool at a usable angle for sharpening it. I guess
thats what you call using what you brung...

I an going to need a decent 6" with this new mill, but haven't stumbled
over one on fleabay yet. Something that isn't too hard to motorize.

I have it homing the first 3 axis's just now but need to find some cable
clips and "nail" down some of the cable I ran today.

I also thought I'd found a bug, maybe because if you have a HOME position
that is not where the switch is, and you don't have a HOME_FINAL_VEL
setting in the .ini files, it tries run about 500 mph, to the final
parking position and trips off halfway there with a joint # following
error long before it hits high gear. I know, read the darned
integrators manual.

Get the cable nailed down & out of the way, rip that box of junk off the
left side of the head and feed the spindle motor from Jons servo amp,
and I should be getting close to a usable machine.

Been at those home switches since about 7, and my back is demanding a
break. I've not made the X switches "roof" yet either. But it's
progress.

I think, I've not turned the spindle with Jon's servo yet, gotta figure
out a power on delay to stage the psu/driver box. Turning it all one
with one switch trips the 20 amp breaker I put in just to run that
4-plex behind the machine. Picky stuff, but show stoppers regardless.
There are 2 300 watt axis motor supplies in that box, and a 115 volt DC
supply for the spindle motor, and theres 20 each 6800 u-f caps in it, 5
per supply, and 4 supplies rigged series & parallel to get 120 volts at
12-15 amps delivered to the motor if its working hard. Its a good
inrush for the first cycle or so & a cheap 20 amp SQ-D see's it and
says, no, I don't think so. Instantly.

So, I am headed to town to see what I can do about that. Might come back
with a 30 amp breaker. Or a 25 if I can find one thats a bit more
tolerant of 1 cycle 100 amp inrushes.

Cheers, Gene Heskett
