You might want to look at pymini works somewhat like hal2ardinio. But with GUI for setup. Google pymini it will be at http://www.ecklersoft.com range of price $60 to $80 depending if you want the case very compact unit. Works with all paraport cnc software Linuxcnc, Mach and others on Lunux , Windows, and Mac OS. It also gives the option to add a Arduino for more I/O.
