Hi,

My upgrade to 2.7 is "still in process." I have a communication error
from the 5i25 to the sserial 7i77 (see below for error from dmesg). I
can start linuxcnc 2.7, make a jog, and after about 5-10 seconds I get
a slew of communication errors and the sserial card is shut down.

I had 5i25 firmware 33 (1.33) and needed to update that to 34 or
higher. I bought the 5i25/7i77 combo and wasn't quite sure which bit
file to use. I chose mesaflash --device 5I25 --write
5i25_7i77x2.bit. In the dmesg output it shows this:
[ 63.884444] hm2/hm2_5i25.0: Smart Serial Firmware Version 43

So that seems to be at least at the correct version now. Correct
bitfile, not so sure?

Also, I think I updated the firmware for the 7i77 okay, here's the
command line response:
mill@dlinux:~/linuxcnc/MESA/Update_7i77_FIRMWARE/utils/linuxcnc$ ./update7i77
move 7I77 W4 and W12 to right hand positions
cycle 7I77 field power and 5V power and hit return

updating 7I77 field I/O
.
updating 7i77 analog out
.
now move 7I77 W4 and W12 to the left hand positiona
and cycle field power and 5V power
mill@dlinux:~/linuxcnc/MESA/Update_7i77_FIRMWARE/utils/linuxcnc$

The first time I did that, I hadn't recycled field power and it didn't work.

Here's the tail end of the dmesg file w/ the communication errors:

HAL FILE Modifications
I don't think there would be an issue w/ the Hal file mods, I
commented out the lines per the instructions here:
http://linuxcnc.org/docs/2.7/html/getting-started/updating-linuxcnc.html
I had originally used pncconf to get the base Hal files and then
edited them. I commented out the pet_watchdog line and loadrt
probe_parport. I didn't add anything else (there's no loading of a
parport function) and also checked and didn't find anything for
parport_pc in /etc/modprobe.d/linuxcnc.conf.

Not really sure what I did wrong:-(
Mark
