I can do rigid tapping on both machines using Jon's driver. Lots of chuck mass and a weak drive train restrict the reversal speed on the lathe, but the G0704's 1 hp motor can go from 2500 revs fwd to 2500 revs in reverse in just over 1 second flat. I have an electronics junkyard at a former employees place, and in the past he has started several projects, bought the parts in quantity, so the dc supply for that motor is now a 4 pack of big toroid's, each driving its own rectifier and filter bank, and they are seriesed and paralleled to make a 125 volt dc supply good for the 10 amps that motor needs. Those toroids are the hottest thing in that box. The turn on in-rush since theres also quite a bank of caps (30k u-f) downstream of each bridge rectifier, demands a 30 amp breaker to feed that 4 plex its all plugged into, it trips a 20 instantly. Needs a soft starter circuit added, but the 30 A. breaker was cheaper than finding a round tuit, by about a hundred dollar bill. Normal amps on an amprobe at that breakers out with everything but the vacuum running is under 3. I had to drill out the plugin holes in the back of those duplexes. It seems they have "injineered" it so you can't feed them with more than the 14 gauge thats NEC legal for a std duplex. 10 gauge works just fine. The binder screws on the sides are also restricted and won't back out far enough for even a 12 gauge wire.
