pyvcp uses a simplified render-er and 'mini-gl'
you can put empty looking things to push what you want into a 
vertical/horizontal/centered position
read the src code
i made custom libs to allow more of the common markup attributes
it was not popular and i had non-portable code
i learned to live without wysiwig layout it
iirc there is a way to use grids(tables)

maybe glade is more to your liking

theres a really cool HUD in vismach
and vismach can use STLs too
lotsa unused stuff in the code to play with
the HUD lets you overlay see thru text displays in front of the 3D model
