Greetings all;

I took that oven apart today, and found that the thermostat is limited in
quickly done adjustability as the knob, as expected is a fine thread
with a pushrod pushing on the snap action switch. And its mounting
screws were loose on the back of the body of this thing, my guess is
enough to cause it to run at least 25 degree F cooler than the knob was
turned to.

So I tightened the screws up solid, and put it back together. Put the
first brass gib in and set it for 450 & stay on. It hit about 435F
before it started cycling. That stat has two thermal gizmo's on it, and
I assume that is what causes it to cycle when it has reach its max
design temp.

Since the stat is not IN the oven, but in a separate compartment that
will have a fixed percentage of the oven temp on one side, and the black
outer cover on the other side, so I see two ways to make it run hotter.
one could put a small fan from an old CPU cooler, with an adjustable
speed control, so as to spot cool that end of the oven, or simpler yet
but not adjustable, some small holes drilled into the compartment to
allow some cooler air to enter and exit. I am rather partial to the fan
idea.

But right now its sitting crossways on the Sheldon since theres nothing
handy to start a fire there, with the first gib that didn't get the
stress relief at about 405F from the previous cutoff in it, sitting at
about 420F which I'll give it to about midnight, maybe more. It cutoff
about 40 thou wide on the ends, and all I have to is lay it on a file &
it curls up into the fetal position in fright. After 2 hours of draw
filing, first on one edge, then of the other, it warps just from
skinning a thou off it with a file, So there has to be a better way.
I'll go shut it off about midnight if I'm awake but maybe later if I
have to get up and pee. The curse of 81 and diabetic. :(

Now, to go and ask my lady what she has in mind for dinner. She had a
migraine the last time I asked as I headed out to check an empty
mailbox, then decided to finish tampting the first post, put the rails
back in, so that job is done for the year, haul the wagon with all the
tools in it to the back yard with the rider, and close that gate you can
see on my web page.

And if I don't mow tommorrow, I'll have to find somebody with a sharp
scythe. But everybody around this neck of the woods buys gas for their
scythe substitute. Darnit.

Cheers, Gene Heskett
