I've had poor luck with the usual step up from a 2M542, which runs the nema 23 and nema 24 motors just dandy, usually the DM860 family, but right now you can get the Automation Tech KL8060 (about a $60 bill on fleabay right now, which has most of the bigger Nema 34's well covered at 80 volts & 6 amps. If you plan on doing the spindle feed and the knee, a 4 pack of those would cover all 4 movements, using the bigger but smaller nema24's for XYZ. The 24's can be had at more than 500oz/in for xy and spindle (Z), feeds and a 960 oz/in nema34 can run the nut for the knee ok, or I'll be surprised. And it should have enough power off residual cog to keep the knee from unwinding itself when you power down. Self, ac powered drives seem to be getting cheaper. I paid thru the nose ($180) for the one I stuck in the G0704 a bit over a year ago, and they never did say what the voltage was, but that 962 motor can run the whole head up and down the post at about 80 ipm. And that beat the daylights out of the 1600 oz/in I took off, which would stall, going either direction, at anything > 29 ipm. > Can Gecko 201/213 be used on these motors? > That might be a bit puny.
