Goldendale is well east of the cascades and therefore drier that the west side.
Goldendale comes in at ~ 18"/yr.  so dry land wheat country.
Yakima long term is 7-9" but we got ~14 last year.
Seattle is at about 27"
Issaquah closer to 55"
Olympia (south puget  sound)  ~50"

Downy brome (cheat grass) germinates about 2 wks earlier than most grasses grows like mad then dries out to burns like mad. Crested wheatgrass doesn't do to bad with 7-9" but looks pretty flush at 12-14" Tall wheatgrass needs about 4 more inches a year than crested wheat to do well.
