Actually I just remembered I actually have an example of a "standard" ER32 nut 
that would work with a solid collet.  I don't know it's origin (it came with a 
used machine we bought) and I don't actually have any solid collets to test it 
with.  But the lip on the inside of the nut that a normal collet snaps into 
only goes 180° around the inside of the nut.  When the nut is unscrewed you can 
tip the collet to one side and remove it from the nut even with a tool inserted 
in it.  When tightened the tapers hold the collet centered and when removing 
them, the 180° of the lip that is there, still engages collet to pull it out of 
the spindle taper same as a normal nut.
