On optical disc drive where the tray won;t open I first get the tray open with 
the emergency eject hole, then use a big pair of bent tip tweezers to get the 
tray belt out. Next step, bring some water to a rolling boil on the stove, drop 
the belt in and turn the heat off. After a minute, fish the belt out, dry it 
off and use the tweezers to reinstall. Also works on tray load game consoles 
like the "fat" Playstation 2, original XBox, and Xbox 360.

I always preferred optical drives with an all gear driven tray, but those were 
few and far between.

Thats also a possibility, since new installs can often be done with a 
netinstall on a thumb drive.  IIRC, that dvd had to have 1/4" snipped 
out of its tray belt & superglued shorter the last time I used it, swag 
at about 2 years ago now.  That has been a good fix I've done 4 or 5 
times now.

We'll see what another new & diff supply with enough drive cables does 
tomorrow.
