I'm reminded of the xkcd on how new stds are set, now all we have to do 
is std-ize the pinout... Asus, when I called them on an unrelated 
matter, answered the phone graciously, but is little or no help.  They 
had no idea what a usb-3 gen 1 breakout was. I finally found some and 
ordered 3.
