I would guess your pump system failed first (lost it's prime or what ever) then the motor over heated and cooked off the hoses. And that is why you didn't have water all over the floor.

I didn't have both eyes open when I came back in this morning or I would have had an IR thermometer in hand. But I'd hazard a guess it was above 300F when I came back this morning. I could feel the heat on my face thru my beard from 3 or 4 feet away.
