I was asking how to cut ring gears because, As we can see in that link, comercial internal gears cost $60 to $120 each and I'd need more then a dozen of them. I was looking at a few different gear reduction systems and one of the designs needed ring gears. Belt reducers and cycloidal drives were other options. Every year or so I try and find a new way to make something like a knee joint for a walking robot and see if the price, power, speed and bulk is acceptable. It is getting much better but still this is a huge design challenge.
