The difficulty is finding a PCIe parallel port card that does the Enhanced Parallel Port protocol (EPP) correctly and reliability.
When I last looked into it, years ago, the situation was terrible: manufacturers would make parallel port cards with totally different chipsets and behaviors, sold under the same model name.
