I don't know what's going wrong, but you can always fall back to
$ darcs send -o my-patch.dpatch
which creates the patch file my-patch.dpatch. Then you can send it to
the mailing list with your usual email client. That's what I'm doing
because I lack a working sendmail on my laptop.
