The 40th issue of MEA Bulletin includes reports on the Beijing
International Conference on Combating Desertification and the Asia
Pacific Regional Conference on Environmental Justice and Enforcement.

This issue contains two guest articles.
* "Bridging the Climate-Change Media Divide on the Road to
Copenhagen" describes the Climate Change Media Partnership's efforts to
provide support to journalists from developing countries before, during
and after the UN Climate Change Conference in Bali. It was authored by
Mike Shanahan, International Institute for Environment and Development
and the Climate Change Media Partnership.

* "Improving MEA Compliance: The Role of National Audit Offices"
describes the role that "Supreme Audit Institutions," such as chambers,
tribunals or comptrollers, can play in evaluating whether the tools
their governments use to manage and protect the environment have
produced the intended results. It was authored by Vivien Lo, team member
from the past Chair of INTOSAI's Working Group on Environmental
Auditing, Office of the Auditor General of Canada.

MEA Bulletin is a publication created by the International Institute for
Sustainable Development (IISD), in cooperation with the United Nations
Environment Programme's Division of Environmental Law and Conventions
(UNEP DELC).
