Greetings from Manavi!
We cordially invite you to AAROHAN: South Asian Women Rise Up Against
Violence, a national conference of South Asian organizations, advocates,
and community members dedicated to ending violence against women. The
conference will be held in East Brunswick, New Jersey on September
13-15, 2002.
In the past decade, almost two dozen South Asian women's organizations
have been formed around the country. Most of our groups have emerged in
response to the gaps in services available to South Asian battered
women. Manavi has planned this conference, in cooperation with the
Violence Against Women Office of the U.S. Department of Justice, with an
objective to improve and increase the capacity of South Asian women's
groups and advocates in meeting the needs of South Asian women who have
experienced violence. This event is a unique opportunity to come
together, share experiences, create new channels of communication, and
forge alliances to effectively address our work to end violence against
women.
Please find enclosed information on conference registration and
accommodation.
a.. Registration: We are extremely fortunate to be working with the
Center for Effective Public Policy (CEPP). They are providing us
assistance with the registration process, and our contact person there
is Joann Wright (301-589-9383). Please note that Manavi has already
identified its scholarship recipients, and no further aid is currently
available. Registration is open to only 55 non-scholarship recipients on
a first come, first served basis. We therefore suggest that you register
at the earliest date.
b.. Accommodation: Non-scholarship recipients are required to directly
contact the Hilton East Brunswick for room reservations. However, if you
wish to share a room and need to be assigned a roommate, please contact
Manavi. We need participant names and roommate preference by July 29 at
the latest so that we can coordinate a rooming list and submit it to the
hotel by the end of the month.
Please do not hesitate to contact us if you have any questions about the
conference. You can contact either Vibhuti Mehra (Technical Assistance
Coordinator) or Soniya Munshi (Program Director) at Manavi:
(732) 435-1414 or [EMAIL PROTECTED]
We look forward to meeting you.
Best wishes,
