I went through most important parts of this patch and except for some
VdcOperationCallback generics kung-fu & @SuppressWarnings("rawtypes") the patch
looks good overall.
Giving +2, I did some minor (non-conceptual) code improvements, I'll submit
these as separate patch on top of this one.
