Hi,

I installed Enigmail add-on to Thunderbird. Used the setup wizard and accepted the default settings (i.e. send in plain text by default, among others).

But I find I need to send HTML frequently. And I need PGP very infrequently. So I want to go back to sending HTML by default. So...
  • I've set the global format setting to "Send HTML anyway"
  • All the account settings to "Compose messages in HTML format"
  • All the identity settings to "Compose messages in HTML format"
  • and checked I have only one domain-level format rule (text-only to a particular newsgroup address)
  • and I have no recipient-level format rules.

But still my messages are being composed in HTML but are being reformatted to text-only before going out. It's a right pain.

I've uninstalled enigmail (and restarted Thunderbird).

I've dug through the Config Editor and can't see anything obvious. (Would need to be obvious - I'm no expert). I do notice there are a log of enigmail keys still hanging around after the uninstall... naughty!

Still the only way to send HTML reliably is to use the Menu->Options->DeliveryFormat->RichText(HTML)Only on every message. Which is easily forgotten.

How do I restore my Thunderbird behaviour to pre-Enigmail state, please please please?

Ian.
