I do not know the answer. There could be a man in the middle, or I might

I cannot call adele on the telephone and ask for her fingerprint, since
I do not know her personally and would not recognize her voice. ;-) And
how would I get her telephone number in such a secure way that I really
knew it was hers and not someone else?

So in one sense it is hopeless.

Ok. I'm going to reply to your message even though I'll get yell at
again for "breaking the thread" -- which I do not understand and have no
clue regarding...

your are dealing with the Trust Model.

It is All Well and Good to acquire a key,-- either PGP/Desktop or Gnu
Privacy Guard (GnuPG). And once you have that key you can verify that
it checks with the signature on a given message. This still leaves you
to resolve the question: who, really, does this public key belong to?

If you have read Zimmerman's original documentation you know there are
two methods: (1) direct contact with the owner of the key, or (2)
verification via a 3d party "introducer" -- know to both parties and
trusted by both.

In the end you only fully trust yourself and so you are finally
responsible for setting the trust level on any public keys that you
chose to trust. what method you use -- is up to you.

for people like Adel- whom you cannot contact -- you leave the key in
an UNTRUSTED condition.

I am going to sign this for you. but you don't know me from Adam.
so, you leave my key in an untrusted condition. There are other
correspondents on this wire who will recognize me.
