It's not necessary. Debian (and by extension Ubuntu) package Enigmail; thus, if you install a new version of Enigmail through the Debian (or Ubuntu) package installation mechanism, it will automagically install GnuPG 2 for you as a necessary dependency. Or, you could just open a terminal window and type: sudo apt-get install gnupg2 Either way works fine.
