Further -- Facebook will send you messages when someone replies to a post you make, or mentions you in conversation. For instance, "Jerry the Political Dissident mentioned you in a post: Frank, are you going to be at the rally on Thursday?" When visited on the FB site that data is protected by TLS; but when they send notifications out by email, it's (maybe!) secured by TLS to your server but nothing past that unless you upload an OpenPGP certificate.
