Further -- Facebook will send you messages when someone replies to a
post you make, or mentions you in conversation.  For instance, "Jerry
the Political Dissident mentioned you in a post: Frank, are you going to
be at the rally on Thursday?"

When visited on the FB site that data is protected by TLS; but when they
send notifications out by email, it's (maybe!) secured by TLS to your
server but nothing past that unless you upload an OpenPGP certificate.
