if I try to uninstall gnupg, I get "You try to harm your system. To continue, type "Yes, do as I say!"" - well, you shouldn't continue.

HOW did you remove gnupg? Using purge? Then your keys are gone. To check: What does "ls -l ~/.gnupg" give you?

IF your keys are gone, don't you have a backup? You REALLY OUGHT TO HAVE A KEY BACKUP AT ALL TIMES! (Speaking from 2st hand experience, I must admit ;-( )
