I have the impression that you have installed two versions of Enigmail: one that comes with Debian, and one that you installed manually. Due to how Thunderbird works, this is bound to fail. I'd recommend that you uninstall the Enigmail package from debian (via apt or similar), restart Thunderbird and retry. -Patrick
