Good news -- Your code isn't to blame. 'Twas mine. There is no leak in Imlib1's Imlib_paste_image().
The suggestion you gave ultimately led me to the root of the problem -- It wasnt so much a GraphicsExpose issue as it was a simple X queue issue. On XNextEvent(), I was only parsing the queue for certain specific events, and basically ignoring the rest...repeatedly.. and only flushing the queue under certain conditions. Duh. So the queue gets continually clogged up with unprocessed events. Ultimately, after a few hours, the shit hits the fan so hard the blades stop and the motor burns out.
