no worries :) to the best of our knowledge the latest imlib2 (1.1.0) with
freetype2 and utf-8 support all around is solid as far as utf-8 goes and the
specs. (good job in tracing it though! :) ) yes it does abort if it finds "non
utf-8" characters as it assumes the string is corrupt. if you do find a real bug
we'll be HAPPY to fix it! :)  but so far the utf-8 / ft2 support is pretty
decent and solid :)
