it also makes it more complex. we have a fairly organised system of storing
(Bsuch data and we use the same system for everything - so no need to use
(Bdifferent ways of getting the data, massaging and processing it etc. we kind
(Bof like our compact way of doing things without the extra text convert to
(Bbinary step and having to create text files to modify binary config's. anyway
(B- the point is your problem wasn't "of the config isn't text" the real
(Bproblem was another issue that needs fixing anyway that a text config would
(Bjust have made an EXPERIENCED unix user able to fix it more quickly - the non
(Bexperienced ones are still just as screwed. if we fix it for the non
(Bexperienced ones it's a moot point then :)

I guess you are right... Anyway the arguments that things should be kept
(Bsimple prevails here. However the fact that the config file isn't text
(Bbreaks a couple of things on my computer:
(B_When files in /etc are updated I use a diff to check for the changes
(B_Files in /etc are backed-up using rcs (which works better with text files)
(B_Scripting in /etc doesn't work as good (grep awk sed....).
(BAll these details are minor and I guess the discussion is over and out.
(BTo sum things up (from what I understand):
(B_The possiblity to have text files in /etc instead of binary ones adds
(Bweight and complication (therefore more potential problems, slower
(Bprograms and more work for devellopers) so it shouldn't be implemented.

(Bwhat about /etc/ld.so.cache? thats a binary... just for starters. and thats been

I don't know if expressed myself clearly. I meant those widgets *should*
(Bfade out right after the program is started. They shouldn't stay on
(Bscreen (and clog up the whole display). I thought they should show up
(Bfor about half a second and then fade away (the way they already do
(Bafter the mouse went over them). I love entice the way it is and don't
(Bwant it to have any more stuff on display than it already has. And by
(Bthe way I to hate those programs designed for peoples not even knowing
(Bhow to use a microwave oven. Most of the time I can't even figure out
(Bhow to use them.....

(BI was just saying this as a guideline for future releases. I admire (Byour work (really) and I'm impressed by the quantity you get done every (Bday. This was in no way a reproche and I do not consider this as an (Bimportant plan. I just whish enlightenment to be the best WM for (Beveryone (even IT impaired personns),so this goes through attention to (Bdetails.
