Tried quotes... It doesn't help much... But hey I got my answer and I think I will stick with my hack. Ubuntu uses a wrapper for auto*** (like most other distros out there). However that wrapper doesn't handle environment variables properly (bad;-()... Could anyone confirme what the state is under debian (sid would be more interesting...)? The command under Hoary to choose your automake version is:
sudo update-alternatives --config automake but I'm no to fond of the whole thing since this is a global change (It will change which version will be called from now on)... Maybe the compile instruction should be changed accordingly. Anyone has a cleaner of doing this (other than going fishing to find the wanted binary version)?
