"Desktop shell" is not meant to imply the same thing as "desktop environment." That's why it was written as "shell" and not "environment:" to distinguish it from things like GNOME and KDE. (Trust me: I was there when the term was coined.) > ...In my opinion e17 IS a desktop environment, or at least I use it > in this way :) Is also true that E is in constant development and is > not finished yet, and for now it can't be considered a complete > desktop environment. Desktop environments define/enforce policy and consistency. If that's what you want from E, then good luck. You'll be doing a lot of work on your own outside the E project (unless raster has undergone a serious personality/philosophy change recently). > You really think that a person is crazy because like to have a > consistent desktop? I think it's crazy to believe that everyone else believes that way, yes. Some people like everything to look the same. Others don't. The freedom to have it either way is one of the most fundamental parts of E and has been for some time. > Why you want to cut-off all the people that want/needs something > different than you? Don't turn this into being about me. It's not. It's about E. Shame on you for trying to make this personal. E has always been about the user's ability to have their desktop look, feel, and behave however they choose. That means consistent or inconsistent, colorful or monochromatic, loud or subdued. If you want E to force everything to look and behave in a certain manner, you're in the wrong camp. E has never been in the business of dictating policy. > I can't understand your point, what's the difference from e and > gnome? Gnome has more "gadgets"? gnome has more application that > use gtk? GNOME dictates. E innovates. The difference between GNOME and E is the difference between fascism and libertarianism. > I think it's only a matter of time... I hope to $DEITY you're wrong.
