Unluckly i'm not able to reply to your question, i just run my test and
transferred some files from my Linux box to WinXP box (running
Filezilla Server), both boxes on LAN, 100mbps link. 
"upload faster than the CPU can handle" are referred to samll device?
I've my ARM9 embedded board, but atm i've no time to crosscc ecore_con
and test it...
