Further digging on IRC (thanks guys) lead to a missing ecore_fb_ts_init() in 
ecore_fb_init().
ecore-fb is horribly out of date and has some strange assumptions all over the 
place.
As I will use it for the next couple of weeks with a phone application, I'll 
try to beat it into
shape -- help appreciated, of course.
