Me too. Ask to the first author why he did it.
Elementary has been released many times with starting index 1.
So we can't change it at this moment.

This was discussed earlier on IRC last summer.
The issue was raised by Sanghyeon Lee. He tried to fix it. But it was too
late.
The conclusion was to keep its return for the consistency and backward
compatibility.

This is why I want to keep an eye on elementary patches.
Someone should do a good review.
This feature was pushed without a deep consideration many years ago :(
