the problem is we need and want developers to engage with users. reddit is a
good example of a well done "forum". the real thing is a stand alone forum
fragments further. if we can tie it to email that'd be perfect.

smooch is a good idea too. has technical issues and usability problems, but i
think we could take the idea and improve it with better integration to irc e.g.
use an irc bot on #e and the bot just provides a WWW window into #e for as long
as the chat window in the browser is up.
