In my memory it was ./configure;make;make install but I can't remember 
if autogen was did before releasing. 


here the source we released (11 years ago) without autogen.sh script

I digged a bit more in this lack of the configure script: 

at least in the arch linux packages this will require the PKGBUILD file to 
be changed as it do not run autogen.sh 

I may be wrong but I think that all distro are building packages running 
only configure
