After some difficulties I managed to install what is advertised as a binary rpm of Eterm-0.9.1-3.
I tried a couple of other rpm's as well as the install from source from the tarball available at www.eterm.org and the above rpm (from rpmfind.net possibly..) is the only one that I managed to install.
Eterm basically works but does not seem to find backgrounds & other image files.
At startup I get the following types of messages - quite a lot of them:

Eterm: Error: Unable to load image file "bar_horizontal_3.png Eterm: Error: Unable to locate image "bar_horizontal_3.png" in the image path.
Eterm: Error: Unable to load image file "help.png"
Eterm: Error: Unable to load image file "exit.png"
Eterm: Warning: Unable to resolve "(null)" as a color name. Falling back on "rgb:0/0/0".
Eterm: Warning: Unable to resolve "(null)" as a color name. Falling back on "rgb:cc/00/00".
Eterm: Warning: Unable to resolve "(null)" as a color name. Falling back on "rgb:00/cc/00".

Yet all these png's are available in /usr/share/Eterm/pix.
Eterm comes up fine, though but with a transparent background.
When I use Background > Pixmap > Scaled and select a background I get an additional message in the parent shell:
Eterm: Error: Unable to load image file "scale/Neopolis-horizon.jpg"
This appears to be a path-related issue but since Eterm was installed off of a binary rpm I have no idea what was specified at ./configure time..!
I noticed that the message specifes a relative path so take it to mean ".... load image file $ETERM_PATH/scale/..." where $ETERM_PATH is the image path that Eterm knows about.
On this system the Neopolis-horizon.jpg file lives in the "/usr/share/Eterm/pix/scale/" directory.
Also I get similar messages when I try to run any of the themes that I installed in ~/.Eterm/themes.
I tried creating soft links pix -> /usr/share/Eterm and also pix -> /usr/share/Eterm/pix and in both cases Eterm cannot find the image files.
Any hints on how I could research this further are very welcome.
