A long time, in a version far, far away (circa 2001), I could use esdctl to pause/resume esd and it didn't matter what user I was.
Fast-forward to a more recent version (Mandrake 10.0 release), and even though the permissions on the socket are 777 I can only talk to the server if I'm the user that started it. I use sounds to alert me to various events, and I have to be able to allow other userID's access to the sound system, even if I've got it occupied playing MP3's. I tried specifying -promiscuous, but that didn't help. Any suggestions would be appreciated. john- ------------------------------------------------------- This SF.Net email is sponsored by: Oracle 10g Get certified on the hottest thing ever to hit the market...
