How do I get rid of older epplets from the desktop at startup? It doesn't have a "close button", and I haven't found it in any startup file (probably because I've look in the wrong places).

Alt-rightclicking on them should bring up the usual window management (you probably want the remember option) options.
~/.enlightenment/...e_session_XXXXXX.snapshots.0 is the file that usually holds all the startup and placement stuff.
