Better still is to place something like this in your ~/.bashrc file:

-----------------------------------------
alias nautilus='nautilus --no-desktop'
-----------------------------------------

so that next time you load nautilus, well it won't mess up w/ your
desktop!

Don't forget to do a "source ~/.bashrc" if you don't plan to reboot. :-)
