After some testing, I noticed that the new Xorg "Composite" extension (which allows for true transparency and the likes) is the culprit, and obviously confuses imlib.. (This was intended as a bug report, but as I now have pinpointed "Composite" as being the reason, it's more just for informational purposes.)
