not sure - "Works for me" and everything is up to date. you'll have to figure 
out why it doesnt work yourself :( it is very likely it is something to do with 
something old installed, or old config. completely log out. go to the console. 
rm -rf ~/.e. then delete all of evas, eet, edje, embryo, in /usr/local/ (or 
wherever it was installed) and re-install.

btw - what version of freetype do you have? does evas_software_x11_test work? 
does it display text?
