mbox isn't that good for storing vast quantites of mail

do you know if i can import maildir into mozilla thunderbird ?
not really, but I'm sure google would turn up some maildir<->mbox
converters...

I'd prefer an imap server, like I am using today with my mozilla
(thunderbird/firefox don't catch my fancy)
