This may be, but does it also show the current volume while changing as
onscreen display? The gnome one does it:

Problem is that it forces fullscreen windows to unfullscreen. So it's
unusable while watching videos.
ok. but do you need to have the hotkey support in th app to detect the changes in volume? If the app would just detect the change in volume and pop up a window, it would work with all ways of changing the volume setting. I don't know if the gnome uses some sort of gnome magic or if it is something alsa supports.
